As long-standing Hyatt Globalist members, my husband and I have had the privilege of experiencing many exquisite Park Hyatt and Andaz properties worldwide, from the pristine shores of the Park Hyatt Maldives to vibrant urban escapes. Yet, the Andaz Mayakoba swiftly ascended to our top two favorite Hyatt destinations globally, a testament to its exceptional charm and flawless execution. It’s a place where the worries of the “real world” melt away within hours, replaced by an ethereal sense of peace and wonder. What makes Mayakoba truly unique is its integrated ecosystem: while the pristine white-sand beach and crystal-clear, warm ocean water are undoubtedly a bonus, the resort’s expansive lagoon system and jungle setting are equally captivating. Unlike some destinations where the beach is the sole draw, Mayakoba offers a complete ecological immersion, making a stay here just as enriching even if it were set further inland. The beach itself, characteristic of this part of Mexico, feels more like a vibrant oceanfront than a placid Caribbean cove, inviting invigorating swims and picturesque strolls.

The resort staff are incredibly proactive; golf carts are always circulating, with drivers constantly looking for guests who might need a ride, or you can simply call from your room to arrange a pickup at a specific time. My husband and I, however, preferred to explore on bicycles. The paths throughout the resort are mostly flat, making for an effortless and incredibly fun ride, allowing us to soak in the vibrant surroundings. Bicycles are strategically placed across the property, so finding one is never an issue. It’s truly the best way to navigate, offering not just a scenic journey but also a welcome bit of exercise to counterbalance all the delicious guacamole and chips!

During our stay, I finally learned about the fascinating coatis, charming native animals that roam the grounds. While I diligently searched, I didn’t manage to spot any of the resident spider monkeys, which adds another reason to return! Without a doubt, one of the absolute highlights of our trip was the complimentary eco-tour. This incredible experience takes you on a serene ferry boat ride through the resort’s intricate lagoon system, offering an intimate glimpse into the rich local ecosystem. This 45-50 minute tour is an absolute must-do, especially for animal lovers like myself. I was incredibly excited to see a diverse array of wildlife, including small crocodiles, majestic large turtles, various lizards, and a spectacular array of colorful waterfowl and exotic birds. We enjoyed the tour so much that we went twice, and both times we were delighted to discover different animals, making each journey unique. A special shout-out to our fantastic guides, Sergio and Cesar, whose knowledge and passion truly enhanced the experience. We were also incredibly touched when Cristina, our wonderful host, surprised us with a private eco-tour for our anniversary, complete with chilled champagne and fresh fruit – a truly unforgettable and thoughtful gesture that underscored the resort’s commitment to personalized service.

Our chosen accommodation, a luxurious bi-level suite, was perfectly situated directly on the beach, offering unparalleled oceanfront access. True to the Andaz brand, the suite was a harmonious blend of spaciousness, modern design, and chic comfort. The bed, adorned with high-quality linens, was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring restful nights. Every amenity in the room functioned flawlessly, contributing to a seamless stay. Upon arrival, thoughtful touches awaited us: a large beach tote bag, stylish flip-flops, plush robes, and even eco-friendly bug repellent. The suite boasted large flat-screen TVs in both the living room and bedroom, alongside a convenient in-room coffee maker. The bathroom was a grand affair, featuring a generous tub, a separate shower, and an expansive vanity. With private patios extending from both the living room and bedroom, we were constantly treated to mesmerizing ocean views. The provided toiletries were of the highest caliber, reflecting the resort’s luxury standards, and the attentive service extended throughout our stay. The private, heated plunge pool on the downstairs patio was a particular delight, allowing us to soak with the soothing sounds and sights of the ocean just steps away. From our suite, it was a mere two-minute stroll to the main beach area and the bustling beach-side pool.

Each of the resort’s four distinct restaurants boasted its own unique identity and menu, consistently delivering excellent service and demonstrating a keen awareness of dietary needs, including food allergies and gluten-free requests. While Mayakoba offers the option to dine at other resorts within the development—and I’ve heard wonderful things about them—we found the dining experiences at Andaz so compelling that we chose to enjoy all our meals right on the property.

Cocina Milagro, located on the serene lagoon side of the resort, quickly became our favorite morning ritual. We’d hop on our bikes for a refreshing ride to this vibrant spot, where an incredible breakfast buffet awaited us each day. The spread offered an extensive and ever-evolving selection of delectable items. Chefs would circulate, delighting guests with freshly baked pastries brought straight from the oven. I must commend Executive Chef Vincent Wallez and Food & Beverage Manager Stefan Karl for their impeccable work in perfecting every culinary detail at this property. I confess, I indulged in an embarrassing amount of chips and guacamole from that buffet every morning – yes, even for breakfast, it was that good!

For our final evening, we dined at OllaCeviche, a stunning oceanfront restaurant featuring comfortable patio couches, making it the quintessential spot for a meal with a view. The restaurant offers a market-style feast, brimming with a diverse array of tacos, authentic Yucatán specialties, and fresh seafood fare, ensuring there’s something to please every palate. Both the food and the handcrafted drinks were simply outstanding, providing a perfect farewell to our incredible culinary journey at Andaz Mayakoba.

Our anniversary celebration was marked by a truly fancy dinner at Casa Amate. This exquisite restaurant offers Latin American specialties within a unique residential concept, where each dining room boasts a distinct theme, creating the feeling of dining in an opulent, private home. Casa Amate epitomizes fine dining; the food was incredibly flavorful, and the service was exceptional. Whether seated indoors amidst the elegantly themed rooms or outside on the charming outdoor terrace, the ambiance is superb. The terrace, especially, provides a breathtaking setting at dusk, making for an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend trying the empanada trio – a culinary delight!

OllaTaco emerged as our absolute favorite dining spot, offering a more casual and lively atmosphere perfect for any time of day. With an extensive selection of classic Mexican dishes, enticing Yucatán specialties, and a great array of local craft beers, it truly had something for everyone. I cannot recommend their margaritas, guacamole, and chicken tacos highly enough; the guacamole, in particular, was among the best I have ever tasted. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, OllaTaco consistently delivered fresh, delicious food in a fun, vibrant setting conveniently close to the beach, making it an ideal choice for relaxed, flavorful meals.
